General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
What does GDPR stand for?
GDPR stands for the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation.
What is the GDPR? With the GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679), the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission aim to enhance and harmonise data protection of all EU citizens. The new data protection regulation allows individuals to control their customer data increasingly well.
Definition of GDPR
The General Data Protection Regulation is a piece of legislation that governs the collection of EU citizens’ personal data. The idea behind it is to better enable individuals to control the processing of their personal data. The regulation makes this easier in many ways, and typically the right to receive information is achieved with a privacy policy statement. The right of individuals to control their personal data gives them the opportunity to verify their data. This subsequently means that a data controller must disclose personal data to an individual at their request.
